Meta Eagle Mountain data center: contractors, jobs and the 2026 expansion

Research checked October 19, 2026. Eagle Mountain, Utah.

We monitor this project and update the report when new contractor, hiring, permit or schedule information can be verified.

Meta’s September 2026 expansion announcement forecasts more than 1,200 workers at peak construction and more than 300 data-center jobs after completion. It brings the company’s stated total investment in Utah above $3 billion. That is a cumulative investment figure, not the price of the new construction package.[1]

Meta Eagle Mountain: project facts

Owner and locationMeta. Eagle Mountain, Utah.[1]
Latest expansion announcementSeptember 14, 2026. New buildings with closed-loop liquid cooling and dry cooling.[1]
Documented construction leadMortenson documents multi-phase campus work; the city quotes its leadership about continuing with the expansion. Individual new-building trade awards remain unverified.[2][3]
Construction workforce forecastMore than 1,200 workers at peak construction. This is Meta’s forecast, not a current vacancy count.[1]
Investment figureMore than $3 billion in total Utah investment, not the price of this expansion alone.[1]
Schedule and bid statusNew-building start and completion dates, issued permit numbers and open bid packages were not verified in this review. Start with Mortenson qualification and ask for the current package schedule.[6][7]

For a contractor, the most useful starting point is Mortenson’s trade-partner qualification program. Mortenson documents years of campus work, and the city’s expansion announcement quotes its leadership about continuing in Eagle Mountain.[2][3][6] For a tradesperson, the next step is to identify the hiring employer and the exact site before applying or traveling. Eagle Mountain also has a separate QTS campus, so a job advertised only by city cannot automatically be assigned to Meta.[23]

Use this guide to find the right company, prepare for qualification and check job leads. We have not verified an open bid package or a craft vacancy tied to the new Meta expansion.

Start here: contractor and worker access

MEP means mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Job listings using that term can cover supervision of several trades rather than one craft.

Your goalStarting pointWhat to confirm
Bid a construction packageMortenson prequalification.[6][7]Name Meta Eagle Mountain, your trade and available capacity. Ask who is buying that package and whether bids are being accepted.
Find construction supervision workMortenson’s Eagle Mountain MEP listings, requisitions 23464 and 22515.[20][21]Both descriptions name Eagle Mountain and the Data Center Group. Neither identifies the September expansion.
Find electrical craft workThe X3 advertisement discussed below and IBEW 354.[13][22]The advertisement names an Eagle Mountain data center, not Meta. Confirm the campus, employer, license and pay terms.
Enter pipe, equipment or ironwork tradesUA 140, Operating Engineers Local 3 and Ironworkers 27.[12][14][15]Ask about the appropriate application or referral process. These contacts are not confirmed Meta dispatches.
Seek an operations positionMeta Careers, the route in Meta’s announcement.[1]Read the individual location and duties. Operations hiring is separate from construction employment.

What Meta announced, and which phase it covers

Meta Eagle Mountain phases: campus construction began in 2018; two additional buildings announced in 2021; liquid-cooled expansion announced in September 2026. Dates are not a construction schedule.
Original Echelon Reports phase guide. Sources: Meta announcements [1][4] and Mortenson [3]. The columns are not a time scale or a guaranteed work schedule.

On September 14, 2026, Meta announced another expansion at Eagle Mountain. The new buildings will use a closed-loop liquid-cooling system with dry cooling. Meta says the cooling system will have no operational water use, while domestic uses, fire protection and equipment maintenance will still require water.[1]

That distinction matters for mechanical bidders. A low-water cooling design still needs mechanical installation, controls and maintenance. Our assessment: ask for the equipment schedule, piping specifications and testing requirements before estimating. Meta describes the cooling approach, but it does not provide a bill of materials or package quantities.

Who is building the Meta Eagle Mountain campus?

Mortenson is the strongest documented route into the construction organization. Its campus page describes delivery across multiple phases, including prefabricated electrical ductbank, walls and hot-aisle containment. The city’s September announcement quotes Steve Knighton, Mortenson’s vice president and general manager of Data Center Solutions, about the expansion allowing continued work in Eagle Mountain.[2][3]

RK Mechanical documents mechanical and plumbing work on a 970,000-square-foot Eagle Mountain building. Its scope included coordination, procurement, fabrication, transport and installation. The company lists air-handling equipment, water-treatment rooms, insulated metal panel walls and piping.[5] This is useful proof of earlier involvement, but the page does not assign RK the newly announced buildings.

BLUVera, a Mortenson affiliateMortenson identifies the affiliate with prefabricated products first developed through the Eagle Mountain work.[3]Current manufacturing orders, installation responsibilities and hiring needs.

These sources do not identify every subcontractor. A company’s past work is a useful lead, but it does not establish a new award. Ask for the building or phase name, the contracting entity and the package number when discussing an opportunity.

Do not mix Meta with QTS

Layton Construction’s April 17, 2026 topping-out report concerns QTS’s SLC1 campus in Eagle Mountain. Its named steel partners belong to that report, not automatically to Meta’s project.[23] UA 140’s retained May 29 call-board entry also identifies Southland at QTS in Eagle Mountain.[19] That dated entry is not a current Meta job call.

For workers, the practical question is simple: which owner, which building and which employer? For suppliers, add the purchase-order entity. A city name alone is not enough to match the work.

Trade work: what the evidence supports

The following table is a guide to qualification questions, not a list of available contracts. It separates documented campus work from scopes that require new expansion drawings or buyer confirmation.

Trade or serviceEvidence and opportunity question
Civil work, excavation and concreteMortenson describes campus construction and prefabricated ductbank.[3] Ask which sitework, foundations and underground packages remain to be procured. No new civil award was verified.
Structural steel, enclosure and roofingRK’s earlier scope included insulated metal panel walls.[5] Obtain the new buildings’ structural and enclosure package boundaries. Do not import QTS’s steel contractors.
Electrical and underground distributionMortenson documents Eagle Mountain ductbank work; its local MEP roles include coordination and commissioning.[3][20][21] Ask about electrical distribution, installation, testing and energization responsibilities.
Plumbing, pipefitting and mechanicalRK documents earlier mechanical and plumbing work. Meta specifies liquid cooling with dry cooling for the new buildings.[1][5] Confirm who owns process piping, equipment setting, flushing and testing.
HVAC and sheet metalRK lists fans and air-handling equipment from its documented building.[5] Use new drawings for quantities and specifications rather than copying those older equipment counts.
Controls and commissioningMortenson’s MEP project-manager role includes startup planning, functional testing and commissioning.[20] Confirm the new project’s controls integrator and acceptance requirements.
Fire protectionMeta explicitly retains fire protection among site water uses.[1] No new fire-protection subcontractor or bid package was identified.
Fiber, telecom and low-voltage systemsThe reviewed expansion announcement does not identify these package holders. Ask the construction team about responsibility boundaries and qualification requirements.
Logistics, rentals, temporary services and cleanupTreat these as subcontractor or project-team inquiries. No specific expansion solicitation was verified in this review.

How contractors can approach qualification

Prequalification is the builder’s review of your company before it can compete for work. Procurement is the process of buying and awarding the work packages.

Three work routes: Mortenson prequalification for firms, employers or trade halls for construction workers, and Meta Careers for operations candidates. Registration is not an award or job offer.
Original Echelon Reports route diagram. Sources: Mortenson qualification forms [6][7], trade organizations [12][13][14][15] and Meta announcement [1]. View the full-size image for small-screen reading.

Mortenson requires trade partners to complete its prequalification process to be eligible to bid or contract. It uses TradeTapp, part of BuildingConnected, to administer that program.[6] The public initial form asks for company and contact information and includes a field for a specific office, industry or project.[7]

Name Meta Eagle Mountain and the work your company can perform. Prepare a short company summary covering similar projects, Utah licensing, safety performance and available crews. Explain which work your own employees can do. This is preparation advice, not a list of documents required by the initial form.

Mortenson’s separate bid-list form displayed group and office choices, but no Utah or data-center selection during our inspection.[8] Do not select an unrelated office simply to force an application through. Use the project field in the qualification route and ask where the Eagle Mountain inquiry should go. Completing qualification does not guarantee an invitation or an award.

Meta Supplier Connect led to an email-login screen when inspected.[9] It should not be treated as a publicly verified Eagle Mountain bid board. The Valley Crossroads Chamber contact page provides a local business inquiry route.[10] Ask about contractor briefings or introductions, but do not confuse a chamber contact with procurement authority.

Before pricing, request the drawings, work schedule, insurance and bond requirements, and payment terms. Confirm which company will sign your contract. Put exclusions and responsibility for testing in writing. The owner’s investment figure does not tell you when your invoices will be paid.

Inspected job leads: location and assignment matter

We checked both Mortenson job descriptions and followed their application links to the employer’s recruiting screens. Confirm that the position is still open and ask which campus and phase it serves. We did not submit applications.

Employer and exact listingDuties and qualificationsPublished pay or travel termsAssignment boundary
Mortenson: MEP Project Manager I, 23464Manages MEP scope, trade partners, coordination, commissioning and closeout. Minimum six years of construction-management experience; degree or equivalent field experience.[20]Published base-pay range: $113,500 to $170,300. The employer lists location adjustments and individual compensation factors.[20]Eagle Mountain; Data Center Group. The description does not name Meta or the new expansion.
Mortenson: MEP Superintendent II, 22515Field coordination, MEP planning, inspections and scheduling. The posting contains both 10-year and 15-year construction-experience requirements; clarify the applicable requirement with recruiting.[21]Published base-pay range: $130,100 to $195,200. Ability to travel up to 100% is listed.[21]Eagle Mountain; Data Center Group. This is supervision, not a journeyman craft opening.
X3: apprentice and journeyman electricians, KSL listing number 82061423Conduit, wire, panels, lighting and circuit work. The advertisement requires an active Utah apprentice or journeyman electrical license and at least two years of relevant experience.[22]Displays $30 to $55 per hour and an average 50 to 60 hours weekly. It says pay up to $55 is based on incentives. Confirm the base rate, incentive eligibility and overtime calculation.[22]Advertiser-authored job-board lead. KSL categorizes it under Lehi, while the description names an Eagle Mountain data center. Confirm the exact address; Meta is not identified.

The X3 advertisement lists 801-601-1414 for calls or texts.[22] Ask the recruiter to identify the owner and project before making travel arrangements. Do not add the advertised incentive on top of the displayed maximum rate without a written explanation of how the offer is calculated.

Search results also returned a Mortenson senior MEP listing whose direct page no longer existed when checked. We excluded it. Several Meta role results had inconsistent location displays, so this report does not present them as verified Eagle Mountain vacancies or invent a current vacancy total.

Trade halls, apprenticeships and worker entry

Contact the organization for your trade and explain your experience. Ask whether you should apply for training, membership or a referral to an employer. The contacts below are entry routes, not confirmed Meta job calls.

Trade routeVerified starting pointAsk before proceeding
Electrical: IBEW Local 354Official Local 354 website, covering Utah inside construction and maintenance, telecom and related work.[13]Ask about current referrals, apprenticeship entry and the employer attached to any Eagle Mountain call.
Plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC and welding: UA Local 140Membership and apprenticeship information. The page directs applicants with five years of verified trade experience to 801-347-1167.[12]Experienced-member intake and apprenticeship are different routes. Ask which applies to your background.
Equipment and crane operators: Operating Engineers Local 3Utah training information. Applications at 8805 S. Sandy Parkway, Sandy; JATC information at 801-664-6934.[14]Confirm application timing, testing and the appropriate training track. Training admission is not a project assignment.
Structural and reinforcing ironwork: Ironworkers Local 27Utah office, 2261 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City; 801-972-8997.[15]Ask about jurisdiction, current referral rules and apprenticeship or experienced-worker entry.

UA 140 also publishes a separate metal-trades process for general labor that does not require experience. Its page instructs callers to use 801-972-0089 beginning at midnight on the first business day of the month and leave one message.[12] Check the current instructions before using that route; it is not a standing invitation to report to the Meta site.

Utah licensing, travel and payment checks

Utah’s Division of Professional Licensing says contractor licensing uses endorsement rather than reciprocity. It also distinguishes the licensed company from its qualifier: the license stays with the company when the qualifier leaves.[16] An out-of-state company should resolve its Utah entity registration and appropriate contractor classification before committing to work.

Utah publishes a separate endorsement route for out-of-state journeyman electricians. Applicants must qualify and provide official license verification.[17] Apprentice plumbers need their employer to verify supervision.[18] A company license or job offer does not settle every worker’s credential requirements.

Before accepting work away from home, get the site address, start date, expected duration, schedule, base wage and overtime terms in writing. Ask about per diem, lodging, parking or shuttle arrangements, travel reimbursement and what happens if the start slips. This review did not verify a standard Meta-expansion per-diem or housing package.

Contractors should obtain the actual insurance limits, bond requirements, retainage terms and change-order procedure from the contracting party. Workers should confirm who will employ and pay them. Treat any request for money to secure a job as a reason to stop and verify the employer through its official channel.

Schedule, permits and the power work

Meta’s September announcement provides a workforce forecast and a cooling description, but it does not provide a complete trade-by-trade construction schedule.[1] This review did not verify new-building permit numbers, package award dates or an expansion completion date. The city’s Building Department links commercial permit instructions and its application portal.[11] Ask the project team for the specific permit and building identifier rather than treating a general municipal page as an issued approval.

Meta says it has funded generation and grid infrastructure associated with its Eagle Mountain operations. It also identifies the 150 MW Faraday Energy Storage project, owned and operated by Lydian Energy.[1] Those statements do not establish which electrical or civil contracts are available today. Keep offsite utility and storage work separate from the campus construction package until the relevant developer or contractor confirms the connection.

Our assessment: qualify early, but mobilize against a documented package or employment offer. The owner announcement is a reason to investigate. The useful commercial milestones are the invitation to bid, award, approved start and actual crew requirement.

Frequently asked questions

How many construction jobs does Meta forecast at Eagle Mountain?

Meta’s September 2026 announcement forecasts more than 1,200 workers at peak construction and more than 300 data-center jobs after completion. These are different employment measures and should not be added into a count of currently available jobs.[1]

Is the new Eagle Mountain expansion a $3 billion contract?

No. Meta says the expansion brings its total investment in Utah above $3 billion. The announcement does not identify that amount as the price of the new buildings or a single construction contract.[1]

Who should subcontractors contact first?

Mortenson’s trade-partner qualification program is the clearest documented starting point. Its initial form allows a specific project to be named. Ask for the Meta Eagle Mountain package buyer and current procurement schedule; qualification is not an open bid or an award.[6][7]

Are Eagle Mountain data-center jobs necessarily at Meta?

No. QTS has a separate Eagle Mountain campus described in Layton Construction’s SLC1 report. A job listing that names only Eagle Mountain needs an owner and site check before it can be assigned to Meta.[23]

Can an out-of-state electrician work under a home-state license?

Do not assume the home-state license is sufficient. Utah provides a journeyman-electrician endorsement application for qualifying out-of-state applicants and requires official license verification. Check the applicable Utah requirements before accepting an assignment.[17]

Does liquid cooling mean the new buildings will use no water?

Meta says the new cooling system will have no operational water use. Its announcement still identifies domestic uses, fire protection and equipment maintenance as site water uses. The claim applies to the specified cooling system, not every water use at the campus.[1]

Sources and research method

This report uses owner announcements, contractor project pages, qualification forms, individual job descriptions, trade organizations and Utah licensing guidance. Research was checked October 19, 2026. Older announcements retain their original dates; a new review does not make an old job call current.

Job pages can change or close without notice. We did not submit forms, contact employers, obtain private bid documents or verify every subcontractor. Pay figures are attributed to the individual advertisements and are not a prevailing wage or a campus-wide pay scale. The original diagrams summarize reported phases and recommended access routes; they are not engineering drawings or a dated construction schedule.

For the national context and other project reports, use the Echelon data-center construction and workforce hub. Compare this project’s access routes with the Port Washington contractor and jobs report, rather than assuming every campus uses the same procurement process.
