Licensed Trades Workforce Data and Hiring Intelligence

Current public baseline, August 24, 2026: 1,213,919 active license and credential units across 20 approved states. The worker-tier panel contains 258,790 active electrical, plumbing, and HVAC credentials.

Workforce data is useful only when its unit is clear. A government license record can establish that a credential exists. It cannot establish that the person wants another job. Echelon separates license supply, contactability, confirmed mobility, qualified hiring demand, and permissioned introductions.

Current licensed-workforce baseline

MeasureCountWhat it measures
Active license and credential units1,213,919Approved public state sources across contractor and trade classifications
Approved states20State sources that passed the August 24 publication gates
Electrical worker credentials163,379Active apprentice, journeyman, and master credentials in the eight-state worker panel
Plumbing worker credentials61,484Active tiered credentials in covered worker sources
HVAC worker credentials33,927Active tiered credentials in covered worker sources
Three-trade worker panel258,790Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC credential units, not unique people

The broad 1,213,919-unit table and the 258,790-credential worker panel are different datasets. The broad table preserves state-native contractor and trade classifications. The worker panel is narrower and maps only sources that support a defensible worker-tier interpretation. Do not add the figures together.

For employers and recruiters

Start with the Hiring Mandate. Define the destination, accepted credential levels, number of openings, compensation range, overtime, per diem, relocation support, schedule, experience requirements, and start window. Echelon can test verified and permissioned worker mobility against that demand.

DEFINED DEMAND FIRST

Tell us who you actually need.

Echelon does not sell raw license records as worker leads.

Submit a Hiring Mandate

For licensed tradespeople

A license record does not enroll anyone in Workforce Signal. A worker chooses whether to submit a Mobility Profile. Echelon then verifies identity, credential status, relocation preferences, compensation requirements, and timing before any matched opportunity moves forward.

Submit a Worker Mobility Profile. Submission is not a job offer, and it does not authorize general disclosure.

Methodology and limits

  • Snapshot dates matter. State endpoints refresh on different schedules. Echelon preserves each source date.
  • Coverage is partial. Twenty approved states are not a fifty-state census.
  • Records are not businesses or people. One company or person can hold several credentials.
  • Active is not available. License status does not establish job interest, mobility, experience, or timing.
  • Small counts are suppressed. The Workforce Board does not expose privacy-sensitive mobility counts below its public threshold.
  • Sharing is recipient specific. Worker-identifying information requires a real matching mandate, a named recipient, and recorded permission.

The Workforce Board carries the current public release. This hub organizes the research around it.
